Welcome

After years of writing in solitude followed by more years of writing with peers in courses offered by Grub Street here in Boston, I’ve just self-published my first collection of five short stories. If you’ve wrestled with how to get your creative work out there, I’m with you.

For the longest time I, too, was convinced I needed an agent to take me on. When that didn’t pan out, I scoured the country for an independent small press. To be clear, there are wonderful agents out there and terrific small presses I’d be thrilled to publish with, but I concluded that maybe, just maybe, with the help of my family, I could cut out all those time and resource-sucking layers and publish my first work on my own through Barnes and Noble Press.

My husband helped me with copy-editing and following BNP’s requisite formatting. Our son, Harper, a member of the Copley Society of Art, ran with the cover design once I’d chosen “I’ll Fly Away” as the title for the collection. Our daughter, Caitlin, read me the stories aloud which is so helpful to me.

What I’m hoping is that readers of the book will feel welcome here – to comment on the stories, to engage me and one another on the content, and to basically feel part of, rather than apart from, the greater writing community, so Welcome!
